A Weekend of SCUM

I SEE SCUM!

Yes! The Santa Cruz Underground Music Fest.
Hella local bands played back to back. Everything from electronic and acoustic sets to some hardcore and punk rock shreadage.

Nursery.

Rare Times.

Good People got to rock out first in the Bike Church.

Acid Tapestries.

This is Cool Band Now.

There were tons more bands to see. Too bad my camera died. Besides, I could hardly stand up after a whole day of bouncing between the hot sunny outdoor shows and stuffy-damp-indoor-noise-pits.

‘Big Chillin’ w/ David M. Episode. 1

This is the first episode of periodic ‘Day In the Life’ documentaries. This month we did some ‘Big Chillin’ with David M. David M is loved and hated in San Francisco, but regardless, if you follow David M around for day, you’re bound to see and hear some funny shit. The sound in this video is off sync at time and the mic we had was crappy so we apologize. Enjoy!

The birth of 2009, Santa Cruz

I decided to keep it mellow in Santa Cruz while Geoff headed south to LA to cover Together As One. To my surprise (but not rly), New Years left me feeling everything but empty. What’s better than being in a familiar place; Nick Green of Sad Dad’s Gone Bad’s house (only a golden nugget’s throw from my house), celebrating the new year with all your closest friends? Well, I snapped photos of about the first hour or 2 before I lost my camera, which I then recovered at the end of the danse party extravaganza. We were blessed to have one of my best friends come through and iphone DJ the party. His name is Mike, but he is also known as “Disaster.” Maybe you’ve heard of his highly respected electro/indie music blog; “Missingtoof.com.” Cheers to Missingtoof!

Well the playlist definitely encapsulated the funnest tracks of 2008. Fair well 2008, I had a great year full of good times, meeting rad new people, re-meeting rad new people, parking/ traffic tickets, good food, bad food, finally transferring out of De Anza College, ending up @ UC Santa Cruz, relentlessly getting duded by girls, R.I.P. Sparks+, peace love ecstasy unity respect, Poison Diamonds, a year full of mistakes, but never regrets.

2008 was a year of self reflection for me and I’m ready for the new year.. it’s going to come whether we like it or not. Well here are the photos of the first 2 hours of this party, after that, my camera got handed off and I proceeded to dance without any care..

Did ya’llz get a New Years kiss? I think this was my first REAL New Years kiss, I think I’ll be feelin warm and fuzzy for the next week before my inevitable feelings of emptiness start to settle in again. Anyways, if you didn’t get a New Years kiss this year, here’s one from Wherewolves.net. *Big Kiss muah!* Cheers to the New Year! May we all get our acts together and give more hugs, have less fights, cheer with more hoorays! and do with less “boo’s”.

Ps. when someone is deejaying with an ipod and switches the song, and the music stops for a split second.. PLEASE don’t be the person who starts boo’ing! That’s just a rude/downer thing to do.. the dj is JUST trying to get ya’llz to have a BETTER time. C’mon! Keep it positive everyone.. life’s too short to be boo’ing. Anyways here are the photos!

what 400 bucks and a drive to SF gets you…

so this week i felt spendthrift and greedy, like normal. i was searching around craigslist really wanting to get a wide angle lens for my canon 10d. after searching around for a while i came upon a surprisingly awesome deal for a tamron 11-18mm lens for my camera. dude was asking 400 bucks and i wanted it. badly. so i bought it. and it was worth it. i took a bunch of test shots today to see how awesome this set up really was and i am now in love with it. i never thought i could be in love with a cylindrical metal object, but i guess that lust isn’t just for the females… anyway, on to the shots.first couple shots were of a gorgeous sunset around the board walk in santa cruz. there was a full moon and the way the clouds glazed over the moon just seemed like a spectacle worth capturing. so i did. i captured that sight and thought about making a scenery porn site. where you can give yourself the one hand shake to amazing views. but then i said fuck that and just went on to the next shot. indoors this lens is awesome. gets plenty of the subject field into frame and only has a small amount of light blockage from the kit flash against the lens rim. so all in all i am so stoked about this lens and am dying to try it out on some skateboarding and other things to come.
